Fagiano Okayama — Academy
Fagiano Okayama's academy, building a 'Fagiano identity' stage by stage — structure, philosophy, graduates and pathway.
Fagiano Okayama’s academy (development division) runs U-12, U-15 and U-18 sides that build a distinct “Fagiano identity” stage by stage. The U-18 has reached the top-tier Takamado-no-miya JFA U-18 Premier League WEST, and recent promotions of high-schoolers such as Kanshiro Suemune and Ryo Senda mark the academy’s growing pipeline to the first team.
Club overview
Fagiano Okayama, based in Okayama City, is a community-backed club that rose to J1 in recent years. Its academy (development division), run by the Fagiano Okayama Sports Club association, coaches players from U-12 to U-18. As the first team has risen, the academy’s presence has grown year on year.
As a relatively young club its academy history is short, but the U-18’s arrival in the top-tier Premier League WEST reflects steady progress. The former second team, “Fagiano Okayama Next,” ended activity after the 2016 season, so the academy now centres on its three youth categories and soccer schools. Rooted in its region, the club has made it a key theme to develop players in Okayama who can aim for the first team — and beyond, for the world.
Academy structure
The academy is made up of three age-group categories plus a grassroots school.
| Category | Team / main league |
|---|---|
| U-18 (Youth) | Fagiano Okayama U-18 / Takamado-no-miya JFA U-18 Premier League WEST (top national tier) |
| U-15 (Junior Youth) | Fagiano Okayama U-15 / Chugoku Progress League and other JFA U-15 competitions |
| U-12 (Junior) | Fagiano Okayama U-12 / regional and prefectural leagues |
| School | Fagiano Okayama Soccer School (grassroots) |
The U-18 (Youth) is the top high-school-age category, having climbed the Takamado-no-miya JFA U-18 league pyramid to reach the top-tier Premier League WEST. Having once competed in the lower divisions of the prefectural Prince League, its rise to the national top level symbolises the academy’s growth. The U-15 (Junior Youth) competes in the Chugoku Progress League and other U-15 competitions, and the U-12 (Junior) covers elementary age.
The main base is Masada Soccer Field in Higashi-ku, Okayama City, developed in 2013 and shared with the first team — a strength for consistent development, as first-team and youth players work in the same environment. League divisions and venues change over time, so confirm the latest on the official site.
Development philosophy
Fagiano Okayama’s development division frames the academy as “a stage where children fulfil their dreams.” On the pitch it values being aggressive in both attack and defence, and building a distinct “Fagiano identity” across the age groups.
Specifically, the U-12 “builds the foundation” of that identity, the U-15 “pursues” it and the U-18 “matures” it. The programme aims to combine global competitiveness with character development, respects player autonomy through individualised coaching, and seeks to sustain a passion for football — deepening the same set of values as players move up the age groups. Under this consistent concept, the club aims to develop players who can go from Okayama to the professional game and the wider world. For the formal wording of the philosophy and coaching staff, see the official site.
Notable graduates & pathway
With a short academy history, professional graduates are few, but first-team promotions have come in quick succession recently. At J-clubs, promising academy players often experience first-team football as “Type-2” players while still in high school before turning professional. The following are confirmed academy graduates.

- Ryuta Ishikawa — promoted from the U-18 to the first team in 2018.
- Kanshiro Suemune — a U-18 forward promoted to the first team in 2025.
- Ryo Senda — a U-18 defender promoted to the first team in 2025.
The club describes Suemune and Senda as pioneers of promotion “while still second-year high-schoolers,” a sign of a maturing pipeline; whether academy graduates go on to broader success will be worth watching. For other clubs’ academies, see the SportsPulse Global — Football hub.
Honours
At youth level, the U-15 was reported as champion of the 2025 Takamado-no-miya JFA U-15 Chugoku Progress League (confirm division and standing officially). The U-18 reached the top-tier Premier League WEST in 2025 and 2026 — a significant milestone for a smaller club.
A high-school-age side’s national standing is usually measured by its results in the league pyramid crowned by the Takamado-no-miya competitions (Premier → Prince → prefectural) and by the summer Club Youth Championship. For the fullest, most current record, see the official site and JFA records.
For players & parents
Fagiano Okayama’s academy comprises the development division’s competitive teams and soccer schools for a wider range of children. In general, joining a J-club’s youth teams (U-12, U-15, U-18) requires passing a selection (trial), typically held at a set time each year for the following season, while soccer schools are usually run on a more open basis for a wider range of ages and levels.
Selection dates, eligible age groups, school venues, application methods and fees can change from year to year. For the latest and most accurate application details, fees and venues, please check the official site.
