Zweigen Kanazawa’s academy comprises U-18, U-15 and U-12 teams based in Kanazawa, Ishikawa. It has already produced a homegrown player promoted to the first team from U-12 (reported by Hokkoku Shimbun), a sign its consistent pathway is bearing fruit. The first team sits in J3 as of 2026 (confirm).
Club overview
Zweigen Kanazawa is a professional club based in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture. The name ‘Zweigen’ is a coined word playing on the local dialect for ‘strong’ and a German phrase evoking the will to win, and the club is rooted as a standard-bearer for the Hokuriku/Ishikawa region. It fields U-18, U-15 and U-12 sides beneath the first team in a consistent development structure.
Together with school programmes, the academy gives children across Ishikawa a route into football. Notably, in recent years a player who joined as a child rose to the first team — a sign the academy is fulfilling its true role of supplying players to the top, not only spreading the game.

Academy structure
The academy runs U-18, U-15 and U-12 teams. The high-school U-18 targets the Club Youth Championship and Prince League fixtures; the junior-high U-15 plays the Club Youth Championship (U-15) and prefectural/regional leagues; the elementary U-12 focuses on individual technique and decision-making. The official site carries each band’s schedule, player profiles and results.
- U-18: high-school age; strengthened toward top national/regional events.
- U-15: junior-high age; Club Youth Championship (U-15) and more.
- U-12: elementary age; the entry point for homegrown development.
Selection trials are announced on the official site, with an internal promotion line from U-12 through U-15 and U-18 to the first team.
Development philosophy
What Zweigen’s development embodies is a philosophy of growing homegrown players toward the first team. The case of a player who joined at U-12 and rose to the seniors is a concrete picture of that ideal — a child raised in the club standing on the professional stage.
That did not happen overnight; it reflects continuity of coaching across the age bands and locally rooted talent identification. Alongside technical and tactical growth, the club values the sense of belonging and love for the club built over long involvement — which makes the ‘homegrown’ story all the more meaningful.
Notable graduates & pathway
The academy’s headline story is the emergence of a player promoted to the first team as a homegrown product from U-12 (reported by Hokkoku Shimbun). A child raised in the club reaching the top team becomes a powerful goal for those who follow.
Such cases show that consistent development can genuinely work at a regional J3 club. For a wider view across academies see our SportsPulse Global — Football hub, and confirm names and promotions via official announcements and reporting.
Honours
