Club overview

Nagoya Grampus trace their roots to the Toyota Motor football team founded in 1939 and are one of the J.League’s ‘Original 10’ from the 1993 launch. Their home area covers all of Aichi Prefecture, centred on the cities of Nagoya, Toyota and Miyoshi, and they play at Toyota Stadium (capacity around 45,000, opened 2001) and Paloma Mizuho Stadium.

With a major manufacturer in their history, the club has built an unusually well-resourced development setup. Because the first team is based at the Toyota Sports Center and the academy uses the same facility, young players are exposed to a top-class environment from an early age — a significant advantage. Academy structure

The academy is organised by age band and, in 2025, expanded to a two-base U-15 model. The main structure is as follows.

The new U-15 Mizuho team, launched in 2025, was created by converting the existing ‘Grampus Miyoshi FC’ school side into an academy team, giving the club two Junior Youth sides alongside the Toyota-based U-15. Broadening its intake across the Nagoya and Toyota areas opens the door to more promising players. Specific U-15 league divisions should be confirmed on the official site.

Club development in Japan runs within the JFA’s age-group league and cup pyramid. At U-18 the nationwide Prince Takamado Trophy JFA U-18 Premier League (East and West) sits at the top, with regional Prince Leagues and prefectural leagues below. The Premier League WEST, where the Grampus Youth play, is the summit stage for western Japan’s strongest sides. At U-15, national competitions such as the Takamado Cup All-Japan U-15 and the Japan Club Youth Championship (U-15) are also in place, and Grampus have piled up national titles at both age groups.

Notable graduates & pathway

The academy’s greatest success story is defender Maya Yoshida, who rose from U-15 through the Youth team to the first team and enjoyed a long career on the world stage and with Japan. More recently Haruya Fujii — who climbed the full ladder from Grampus Miyoshi through U-12, U-15 and U-18 to the first team and made his Japan debut in 2024 — has become a new emblem. Others such as Ryota Isomura and Daiki Mitsui have also been promoted from the academy.

Players like Maya Yoshida and Haruya Fujii — developed consistently from the youth ranks, through the first team, all the way to the Japan national side — symbolise the quality of Grampus’s development.
