Club overview

Vissel Kobe is a J1 club based in Kobe, Hyogo. Its academy, based at Ibuki-no-Mori, coaches players systematically from elementary to high-school age and supplies talent to the first team. Academy structure

The academy is organised by age group, with two U-15 sides — the main team and Itami.

The U-18 (Youth) plays in the top tier of the Takamado-no-miya JFA U-18 league system, the Premier League WEST, facing the country’s strongest sides on a regular basis. The U-15 (Junior Youth) fields both a main team and Itami, giving more players a high-level development opportunity. The U-12 (Junior) covers elementary age, where the foundations of technique and decision-making are built.

The main base is Ibuki-no-Mori in Nishi-ku, Kobe, alongside the first-team training ground. The Mikitani House dormitory, opened in 2009, serves as a centre for personal development through communal living and dining, supporting players — including those from further afield — off the pitch as well as on it. Development philosophy

Vissel Kobe’s academy is built around developing “human-rich players who lead Japan and perform globally.” It works on three pillars: consistent coaching from elementary to high-school age; widening the base through weekend clinics and school programmes; and coach development.

On the pitch, all age groups share a possession-based approach and aggressive actions in attack and defence. The U-18 focuses on team tactics, speed and power, and independent individuals; the U-15 on group tactics and understanding the whole game; the U-12 on enjoyment, basic skills and good habits. Notable graduates & pathway

The academy has produced homegrown players now featuring for the first team and beyond. At J-clubs, promising academy players often experience first-team football as “Type-2” or special-designated players while still in high school before turning professional. • Yuki Kobayashi — a centre-back promoted from the U-18, who has since played in Europe including with Celtic.
• Daiki Sasaki — won the Premier League WEST with the U-18 before a 2018 first-team promotion; a homegrown attacker.

• Taiya Maekawa — an academy-raised goalkeeper who has been called up to the Japan national team.

At youth level, Vissel Kobe U-18 won the 2017 Takamado-no-miya JFA U-18 Premier League WEST.
