Sanfrecce Hiroshima: Three Titles and a New Home

By SportsPulse Editorial Team|Updated June 11, 2026|Editorial reviewEditorial policy ›

Three J1 championships in four years, won by the man who now coaches Japan — and, since 2024, a beautiful new stadium right in the heart of Hiroshima. One of the J.League’s founders has rarely looked stronger.

The quick version

Sanfrecce Hiroshima are one of the J.League’s original ten clubs and one of its most successful of the past 15 years: three J1 League titles — 2012, 2013 and 2015 — all won under Hajime Moriyasu, who went on to become the Japan national team head coach. In 2024 they moved into a stunning new downtown home, the Edion Peace Wing Hiroshima, beside the city’s Peace Park. Heritage, silverware and one of the best new stadiums in Asia.

1. Who Sanfrecce are

A founder club, in one of Japan’s most resonant cities.

Sanfrecce Hiroshima are one of the original ten J.League clubs from 1993, with roots as the Toyo Kogyo (Mazda) company team going back to 1938. Based in Hiroshima in western Japan, they’ve grown into one of the league’s genuine powers — and a club whose modern identity is tightly bound to one manager.1

2. Three titles under Moriyasu

Sanfrecce’s golden era came under Hajime Moriyasu, who guided them to the J1 title in 2012, 2013 and 2015 — three championships in four seasons. Moriyasu later took charge of the Japan national team, making Sanfrecce the club where one of the country’s most important modern coaches built his reputation.1

2012 First J1 League title (beat Cerezo Osaka 4–1 to seal it)
2013 Second J1 title, back-to-back
2015 Third J1 title in four years

3. The Edion Peace Wing

In 2024, Sanfrecce moved into a superb new home: the Edion Peace Wing Hiroshima, a football-specific stadium built right in the city centre, a short walk from the A-Bomb Dome and the Peace Memorial Park. It’s one of the most striking new grounds in Asian football — and a centrepiece of any Hiroshima football trip.2

4. Why they matter

  • They’re recent serial winners. Three titles in four years is elite company.
  • They shaped Japan’s coach. Moriyasu’s success here led him to the national team.
  • They have a landmark new home. The Edion Peace Wing is a destination in itself.
