When to go

The seasons for our three sports, at a glance.

Football · J.League

Most of the year

A long domestic season with cup competitions — nearly always a match worth seeing. Pairs well with spring or autumn travel.

Basketball · B.League

Autumn → spring

The B.League and WJBL run roughly September to May, with arena-show atmosphere indoors — great for winter trips.

Formula 1 · Suzuka

Spring (race week)

The Japanese GP is a spring fixture at Suzuka — book early; race week sells out and hotels near Nagoya fill fast.

How we recommend — and how we’re funded

Our guides are editorial. We may earn a commission from some bookings (hotels, rail passes, tickets and experiences) at no extra cost to you. We recommend based on what fits your trip — not on commission — and we label affiliate links. Prices and schedules carry a “last verified” date.

1. Japan welcomed a record 42.68 million visitors in 2025. JNTO / Japan Tourism Agency. Schedules and prices illustrative for this mock.
