The quick version

The Slam Dunk crossing sits right outside Kamakurakōkōmae Station on the seaside Enoden line, an easy day trip from Tokyo. Reach Kamakura by JR Yokosuka line, then ride the Enoden along the coast — stopping for the Great Buddha (Hase) and on to Enoshima. The crossing is a 1–2 minute walk from the station; go early morning or sunset for the best light and fewest crowds. ⚠ It’s a working level crossing in a residential area — visit respectfully and follow the rules.

2. Getting there and the crossing

From Tokyo, take the JR Yokosuka line to Kamakura, then switch to the Enoden — a charming coastal tram that runs to Enoshima in about 25 minutes.1 Get off at Kamakurakōkōmae; the famous crossing with its ocean backdrop is a 1–2 minute walk. Early morning (around 6–9am) or sunset offer the best photos and lighter crowds.

3. Make a day of it

Ride the Enoden two stops from Kamakura to Hase for the Great Buddha (Kōtoku-in, ¥200) and Hase-dera, then continue to Enoshima for the shrine, Nakamise street and sea views.1 Base yourself in Kamakura, Fujisawa or Tokyo, and book accommodation early in peak seasons. ⚠ Don’t block the crossing or trespass — respect residents and rail safety.
